This simple jar cozy fits a 24-ounce wide mouth Ball Jar (6.88 in tall, 3.5 in outside diameter).

Skills required:

• single crochet
• magic circle cast on (link to tutorial provided)
• single crochet through the back loop
• single crochet increase

Materials

• G (4.25mm) hook (or size needed to obtain gauge)
• F (3.75mm) hook (or size needed to obtain gauge)
• Lion Brand Re-Up Yarn, 70g, 114 yards/105 meters (85% cotton, 15% polyester).
  • Sample shown in Sunflower (Main Color) & Ecru (Contrast Color). Used 38 grams total, 62 yards/ 57 meters
• 1 locking stitch marker- to mark the beginning of the round.
• Tapestry needle- to weave in ends
• Scissors

Gauge

• After you complete Round 6 of the base, the diameter of your circle should measure approximately 3 in/7.5 cm (using larger hook).
• 15 stitches over 4 in/10cm in single crochet (using the smaller hook) unblocked, not stretched around the jar.

Having a re-usable cup/jar/bottle is a great, yet simple, way to avoid needing to buy/use plastic. This is especially important at a time, when many recyclable items simply are not being recycled). The Lion Brand Re-up yarn is a great pairing for this project. As they say on their website: “It takes, on average, 20,000 liters of water to make 1 kilogram of cotton. By using one 70 gram ball of Re-Up you are saving 1,400 liters of water.”
